 Behind our Name

Aficionados of James Bond, Secret Agent 007, will already be familiar with MI6, the UK’s elite military intelligence service. Within that service was a specialized department of the British Directorate of Military Intelligence (part of the War Office in World War II) known as MI9. Established in December 1940, its main tasks were aiding resistance fighters in enemy-occupied territory and recovering allied troops captured behind enemy lines.

MI9 used sophisticated intelligence gathering to support its elegant, innovative, and sometimes unorthodox, methods for getting behind enemy lines and achieving countless amazing rescues. Its exploits were legendary well before Hollywood seized upon ‘007’ and created a cult following.

In 2001, when Mi9 Retail was founded, we were determined to become the force to reckon with in the world of business intelligence. Since our team included 9 people, Mi9 was the perfect name. Like our namesake, we positioned the bar very high!
